"If the rumors are true, then New York City's gay nightlife scene is about to get a boost it seriously needs!
Word around the web is that my generation's version of Studio 54 is about to raise from the dead. That's right, Roxy is evidently making a comeback!
Former Roxy owner, Gene DeNino, is supposedly looking for partners to bring the Roxy back. According to Gawker.com, DeNino is likely to turn to former Roxy promoter John Blair. Blair is currently behind the promotions over at Splash. Gawker's Brian Moylan says he hears John is working on something new, and we join his speculation that this could be it!
Oh I hope so! Some of my best nightlife memories come from Roxy. I saw Cher, Madonna, Yoko Ono, Gloria Gaynor and many more perform live right there on that little stage. I even hallucinated little munchkin maids and hundreds of window explosions on that second floor. Good times. Good times.
They've evidently filed for the liquor licenses, and the rent is pretty steep - so it might be a stretch. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
We're on top of this one, and we'll keep you posted!"
